This Privacy Policy explains how LOVE AND COFFEE LIMITED ("we", "us", "our"), the company behind the Snail Walk mobile game and the snailwalk.app website (together, the "Service"), collects, uses, and protects your personal data.
We are the data controller for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are a company registered in England and Wales (company number 09859856), with a registered address at 13 Grangemouth Road, Coventry, United Kingdom, CV6 3EZ.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, contact us at [email protected].
1. What we collect
Step counts (health data)
Snail Walk is a walking game. To make it work, we read your daily step count from Apple HealthKit (iOS) or Google Health Connect (Android), only after you grant permission. We send the daily total number of steps to our server so they can advance your character on the path.
We do not collect GPS, location, route, or any other health information. No heart rate, no workouts, no body measurements - only the count of steps per day. You can revoke this permission at any time in your device's Health settings; the game will simply stop advancing.
Account information
- Email address: if you sign in with email, used to send your one-time sign-in code and purchase receipts.
- Apple Sign In identifier: if you sign in with Apple, we receive an account identifier (and your email only if you choose to share it).
- Guest accounts: you may play without giving any personal details; we generate a display name for you and store only game data tied to a random account ID.
- Display name and avatar: your chosen name and either an uploaded photo or a generated avatar. These are visible to other players on leaderboards and near your character on the shared path.
Game data
- Your position on the path, distance survived, days survived, and step balance.
- Achievements you unlock.
- Records of your in-game progress, which may be visible to other players as part of the shared game world.
Purchase data
When you make a purchase (such as an early-access pack, an ad-free unlock, or a cosmetic), we record the purchase (product, amount, date, and a transaction reference) to deliver what you bought and to handle support and refunds. Card and payment details are handled entirely by our payment providers - we never see or store your full card number.
Analytics and crash reporting
We may use analytics and crash-reporting tools to understand how the Service is used and to fix bugs (for example, app version, device type, OS version, anonymised usage events, and crash logs). Where required, this is done on the basis of your consent or our legitimate interest in keeping the Service working. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles of you.
Advertising
Free players may see ads. Ad partners may process limited device and usage data to serve and measure ads, in accordance with their own privacy policies and the consent choices you make on your device. Players who purchase the ad-free unlock do not see ads.
2. Why we use your data (legal bases)
- To provide the game (steps, position, accounts, leaderboards) - performance of our contract with you.
- To process purchases and provide support: performance of our contract and our legal obligations.
- To keep the Service secure and working (rate limiting, crash logs, fraud prevention) - our legitimate interests.
- For analytics and advertising: your consent and/or our legitimate interests, depending on the tool and your settings.
3. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Service:
- Apple and Google: for sign-in, in-app purchases, and (on Android) Health Connect.
- Creem: our merchant of record for website pre-sale purchases.
- Resend: to send transactional emails such as sign-in codes and receipts.
- Our hosting and infrastructure providers: to run our servers and store data.
- Analytics, crash-reporting and advertising providers: as described above.
We may also disclose data where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service.
4. Other players can see some of your data
Snail Walk is one shared world. By design, the following is visible to other players: your display name, your avatar, and your position and distance on leaderboards and near your character. Do not use a display name or avatar you are not comfortable showing publicly.
5. International transfers
Some of our providers are based outside the UK/EEA. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision.
6. How long we keep data
We keep your account and game data for as long as your account exists. Purchase records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting purposes. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must keep some records to meet legal obligations. Note that in-world records of past play may remain as part of the shared game world, disassociated from your personal identity on request.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted ("right to be forgotten");
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- data portability;
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
8. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted storage of authentication tokens and transport encryption. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, where changes are significant, notify you in the app or by email.
